William Lee "Bill" Emery, 88, of Rushville, Missouri died Sunday, February 25, 2018 at his home.
Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Benedict's Church with Fr. Jeremy Heppler, OSB as celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery, Rushville, MO. A parish rosary will be recited on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 5:30 p.m. followed by a Masonic Service at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home; the family will then receive friends until 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict Parish and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.
Bill was born on January 31, 1930 in Guthrie, Oklahoma the son of Cecil and Rose Emery. He attended schools in Guthrie, Oklahoma, Rushville, Missouri and Atchison, Kansas.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army beginning on February 24, 1948, where he was sent on active duty to Seoul, Korea. He then served in Yokahama, Japan from 1948 until the Korean Conflict in 1950, and returned to base in the United States in 1951. Bill received the Korean Combat Infantry Badge. He was honorably discharged on February 27, 1953.
He was employed with Missouri-Pacific Railroad, as a blacksmith, working in Leavenworth, KS, Scott City, KS, Omaha, NE, Kansas City, KS, Osawatomie, KS, Wichita, KS, and Atchison, KS. He then worked for the Department of Housing and Engineering as a painter at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas for four years.
He was a member of St. Benedict Parish, life member of the Atchison Masonic Lodge, Past Master of the Rushville Masonic Lodge, member of Scottish Right and life member of the Disabled Veterans in Leavenworth, Kansas.
Survivors include his loving companion, Norma Dame, Rushville, MO, two daughters, Vicky (Carl) Kiehl, Atchison, KS, Leslie (Ed) Wise, Raymore, MO, two sons, Douglas M. Emery, Atchison, KS, William L. Emery II, Wichita, KS, four sisters, Rosemary Schmelze, Marie (Mitchel) Smith, Geraldine (James) Glagebrooke, Georgia (Jimmy) Stumbaugh, two brothers, Donnie (Cathy) Emery, Roy (Marilyn) Emery, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Susie Hamilton, Anna Davidson, seven brothers, Buck Ebbrecht, Jack Hopple, Donnie Emery, Ernest Emery, Frank Emery, Merle Emery and Loyd Emery.
