Valorie Deann "Val" Smith

Valorie "Val" Smith, 57, Atchison, Kansas died unexpectedly Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, Missouri.

Memorial Service will be Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church, with Chris Schafer officiating. Memorials are suggested to help defray funeral expenses and may be left in care of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.

Valorie was born September 11, 1955, in St. Joseph, Missouri, the daughter of Ferol and Barbara Sonner Paden. Val attended Atchison Public Schools graduating from Atchison High School in 1973. She then attended and graduated from Missouri Western State University, St. Joseph, Missouri and later graduated from Kansas City Seminary as a licensed minister.

She and Daniel D. Smith were united in marriage on November 25, 1988 in Atchison.

Val was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a former member of the Atchison Lion's Club.

She was formerly employed with Atchison Youth Center, Country Care Nursing Center in Easton, Kansas, served as an activities director for Gran Villas and worked for a brief time at McDonald's Restaurant.

Survivors include, her husband, Dan Smith, Atchison, KS her mother, Barbara Paden, Smithville, MO, two daughters, Dori M. Smith, Atchison, KS, Darby L. Schafer, Greeneville, TN, a step-daughter, Angela Young, Miltonvale, KS, two step-sons, Carl Smith, Leavenworth, KS, Jay Smith, Miltonvale, KS, two brothers, Alfred Paden, Smithville, Mo, John Paden, Ft. Worth, TX, a sister Ferolyn Paden, Shawnee, KS, and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Thomas Paden.
