Thomas Eugene Scherer, 61, of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away on January 20, 2015 at his home.
A memorial service will be Saturday, April 18, 2015, at 11:30 A.M. in the chapel of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Atchison, Kansas.
Tom wanted to be remembered for being fortunate to be a father, a civil rights activist, and proud of overcoming barrier and obstacles, myths, and stereotypes.
He loved to playing billiards and pool, writing, and fishing. He served for our country in the Vietnam War on the USS Archerfish, SSN 678, where he was an electrician. Tom spent the last twenty years of his life being a civil rights activists where he was involved in many legal cases including a few cases in the Supreme Court as well as entering the political arena later in his career.
Thomas is survived by his son, Jacob, Brother, Robert, Sisters, Connie and Cathy, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
