Sr. Maria Enriqueta Valenzuela, OSB, 82, Leavenworth, Kansas formerly of Atchison, Kansas died Friday, October 13, 2017 at her home in Leavenworth.
Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. in the chapel of Maur Hill-Mt. Academy School with Fr. Jay Kythe, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A rosary will be recited on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:00 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mexican Sisters and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.
Sr. Enriqueta was born January 15, 1935 in Portezeula, Jalisco-Mexico the daughter of Enrique and Felipa Andrede Valenzuela. She attended schools in Mexico and graduated from Josefina M. Valenzia High School in Mexico.
Sr. Enriqueta, a member of the Benedictine Order came to Atchison, Kansas in 1956 to serve at St. Benedict's College (now Benedictine College). In the early 1960's Sr. Enriqueta began serving at Maur Hill Prep School in the dietary department where she retired after fifty years of service.
Survivors include two sisters, Anipar Valenzuela and Lidia Valenzuela of Mexico and a brother, Francisco Valenzuela, of Mexico and the Sisters of her religious community.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Teodora Valenzuela, Otilia Valenzuela and a brother, Luis Valenzuela.
