Shirley A. Megenity, 78, Atchison, Kansas died Friday September 26, 2014 at Atchison Hospital.

Funeral services will be Monday, September 29, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, September 28th from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M. at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church or American Diabetes Association and may be left in care of the funeral home. Shirley was born June 10, 1936 in Trenton, Missouri the daughter of Charles A. and Alice Whitworth Schooler. She grew up in Atchison attending Sunnyside Elementary School and Atchison High School.

She and Carl R. Megenity were united in marriage on February 6, 1954 at First Christian Church.
Shirley served as a school cook for USD #409 School District in Atchison for over twenty years until her retirement.

She is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Altar Guild, Morning Break and Pastors Adult Bible Class at the church. She also volunteered for the Atchison Salvation Army. She enjoyed sewing, reading and especially spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Carl R. Megenity of the couple's home in Atchison, a son, Robert (Lorraine) Megenity, Atchison, KS, four daughters, Debbie Peters, Atchison, KS, Robin (Michael) Springstead, Hiawatha, KS, Carla (Allen) Wolfe, Atchison, KS, Julie (Nathan) Commings, Lowry City, MO, two brothers, Robert Schooler, Atchison, KS, Gary Schooler, Atchison, KS, two sisters, Nancy (Ted) Beien, Atchison, KS, Judy (Wesley) Head, Leavenworth, KS, ten grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Roberta Schooler and a son-in-law, Dennis Peters.
