Sandra K. Hunter, 68, Atchison, Kansas, died Thursday, April 26, 2012, at the St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 1:00 P.M. at Atchison United Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Ellis officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will on Friday, May 4th, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hunter family and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom the final arrangements have been entrusted.
Sandra was born August 15, 1943 in Atchison, Kansas the daughter of Marlin and Frances Chatmon Miller. She attended the Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Atchison High School. Following graduation she attended LPN classes at the Atchison Hospital.
She and David "Jim" Monroe Hunter, Sr., were united in marriage on January 15, 1960 in Atchison, Kansas. Mr. Hunter preceded her in death on November 10, 2007.
Sandra was employed with the Atchison Hospital for thirty-six years as a Licensed Practical Nurse until her retirement.
She enjoyed many things in life, University of Kansas Men's and Women's basketball, sports, traveling, antiques, but above all else she loved her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
Survivors include two daughters, Terri Hunter, Baltimore, MD, Tinita Knight, Olathe, KS, two sons, David Monroe Hunter, III, Wichita, KS, Jay Vincent Hunter, Jefferson City, MO, her mother, Frances Miller, Los Angeles, CA, four sisters, Marlene Murray, Los Angeles, CA, Vauntina Wright, Longview, TX, Frances Carey, Los Angeles, CA, Mary Ruth, Columbus, OH, a brother, Douglas Miller, Southfield, MI, mother-in-law, Arthine Hunter, and three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two aunts and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her father, and four brothers, Marlin Miller, Jr., Stewart Miller and infant twins Marlin and Francis Miller.
