Ruby Deanne Phillips left this physical plane on June 18, 2026, after a lengthy illness. Born November 27, 1972, in Winchester, Kansas, the daughter of Robert Laurence and Bonnie Jane Clem Thompson.
She attended schools in USD 377 district graduating in 1990. While in high school music was her passion. She sang with the Soundmasters and played six different instruments in the band.
Continuing her education and following in her mother’s footsteps, she graduated from Highland Community College in 1995 as an LPN. Over the next several years Ruby worked in many facilities including Dooley Center and Osawatomie Mental Health Hospital.
Ruby married Jeff Phillips in 2004. They have two daughters. After she and Jeff ended their relationship, she met Erin Bowen and they adopted a son. Her third and final love and forever partner Trey Sears who was by her side until the end.
Ruby was active in the Atchison VFW Auxiliary including serving as President and Youth Chairman.
Surviving Ruby are her sisters Connie Earl, Tracey (Brad) Shumaker, and Lynne (Don) Ball, a brother Wayne Thompson, daughters Alexis (Angelina Ortiz) and Jessica Phillips and a son Gabriel Bowen. Former partners Jeff Phillips and Erin McAnelly and the love of her life Trey.
Going before her were her grandparents, parents, Clem aunts and uncle, her brothers Larry and Loyd Thompson and Jerry Earl.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 11. Time and place to be announced later. Memorial contributions can be left at the funeral home to assist the family with expenses. Cremation care has been provided by the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.
