Roger Dunning

Roger Dunning, 92, passed away Monday, September 14, 2026 at Atchison, Kansas to join his heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at St. Benedict Church in Atchison, Kansas on October 8, 2026 at 10:30 a. m. with Fr. Bill McEvoy as celebrant and interment of the cremated remains will be in Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas. The Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home of Atchison, Kansas is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial donations are suggested to St. Benedict Parish; St. Judes Research Hospital or Disabled Veterans and may be left at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, 208 North Fifth Street, Atchison, Kansas 66002.

Roger was born May 3, 1934 in Webster, Kansas to parents Warren E. Dunning and Neva Bray Dunning. He attended school in Stockton, Kanss and graduated in 1952. He graduated from Ft. Hays University with a BS degree in accounting and business administration in 1958. He graduated from Kansas State University with a MS degree in accounting and management with Phi Kappa Phi honors in 1960. During 1954 and 1956 he was a Naval Sir Cadet and served on ships in the U. S. Navy. He started his business career as a certified public accountant with Deloitte, Haskins and Sells in Denver, CO. He worked for Lockheed Martin Aerospace for 13 years responsible for rocket engines and other spacecraft hardware for communication satellites and landings on the Moon and Mars. He was Vice-President and General Manager 15 years for the Lincoln Family college Bookstore and corn milling operation in Atchison, KS. He was President and General Manager of the state owned North Dakota Mill and Elevator Association in Grand Forks, ND for 8 years. It continues to be the largest wheat mill in the U.S., processing 80,000 bushels of wheat daily.

Roger married his soul-mate, Lorrie Gerstner, September 3, 1954 in Pensacola, FL. While in the Navy air cadet program. Roger was a man of many talents who could fix failing business operations and almost anything that required forward thinking action and teamwork. He and Lorrie traveled many miles together in support of customer conventions throughout the U. S., Canada and Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, parents, brother, Warren Lee and sister, Gloria.

His love and spirit will live on in his sons, Bruce and David, grandchildren, Stephanie and Alex and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
