Robert W. "Bob" Thorne, 86, Effingham, Kansas died at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka, Kansas.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 2, 2011, at 10:30 A.M. in the chapel of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Hendon officiating. Private interment will be at a later date in Pardee Cemetery, Cummings, Kansas. Visitation with the family will be Thursday, December 1, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to American Heart Association and may be left in care of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom the final arrangements have been entrusted.
Bob was born July 9, 1925 in Farmington, Kansas the son of Henry and Eliza Bailey Thorne. He attended Atchison County Community High School, graduating in 1943.
He and Wilma Bullock were united in marriage on December 5, 1955 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bendena, Kansas.
He worked his whole life farming and owned and operated a dairy farm.
Bob is survived by his wife, Wilma Thorne of the home in rural Effingham, KS, a son Robert Thorne, Effingham, KS, a brother Glen Thorne, Farmington, KS, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Thorne, a grandson, Kyle Thorne, four sisters and five brothers.
