He was born on November 20, 1935 in Atchison, Kansas to Pedro and Maria Delores Cordero.

Richard grew up in Atchison, Kansas and was a graduate from Maur Hill High School and later attended Benedictine College. He proudly served in the Military (Army Division), from August 28, 1958 until his honorable discharge on August 17, 1960. After his service he was an active member of the Fleming-Jackson-Seever Post #6 of the American Legion and V.F.W Post # 1175.

Both before and after serving in the military, he worked for Zabel's Food Market in Atchison, where he was beloved by the Zabel family, and the many people he came into contact with for many years. He later worked for Blish Mize in packaging, and the Atchison Technical School district as a custodian.

Richard was a member of St. Benedict Parish, actively participating at St. Joseph's Church and he was also an active participant in serving Loaves & Fishes to members of the church. He was a member of Sacred Heart Council #723 of the Knights of Columbus. He was the constant caregiver, always helping in whatever capacity that he could. Those were the actions that earned him the respect and love of not only his family, but also those who came in contact with him.

He is survived by two brothers, Raymond J Cordero of the home, and Refugio Cordero of Chicago, Illinois. Richard is also survived by multiple nieces and nephews and god children as well as other relatives, all of which will miss him dearly.

Richard was preceded in death by both his parents and one sister, Alvina Sherman.
