Richard W. Downing, Jr.

Richard Wayne Downing, Jr., of Atchison, Kansas, passed unexpectedly on May 20, 2024, at his residence.

A memorial service to celebrate and remember the Life of Richard will be Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Shiloh Baptist Church. Cremation care has been entrusted to the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.

Richard was born on June 13, 1966, in Atchison, KS, the son of Richard Wayne Downing, Sr., and Loretta (Kelley) Downing. He attended Atchison public schools and graduated from Atchison High School. He was employed in healthcare for many years.

He was a Christian man who was proud of his faith. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and was a music expert of all genres. He was an avid sports fan and a gambling aficionado. He loved his family and will be greatly missed.

He was a loving father of his two children, Rayna Noel Dawson and her husband Larry Dawson of Kansas City, MO, and Kordell Wayne Downing of Baltimore, MD; he is also survived by his sisters, Valerie Marcelin (Klebert) of Atchison and Loreeta Downing of Florida; and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, David Downing, Sr., Donna Downing and Greg Kelley
