Pauline Jewel Stith, 93, Atchison, Kansas, died Monday, November 11, 2013, at her residence.
The body has been cremated. A Memorial Service will be Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Atchison United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy J Kollhoff officiating. Burial of the cremains will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the services at the church beginning at 10:00 A.M. Memorial contributions are suggested the Atchison United Methodist Church and may be left in care of the funeral home The Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home has been entrusted with the final arrangements.
Pauline was born December 8, 1919, in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Edwin and Clyda Belle Ledford Rife. She attended elementary school in Garnett, Kansas, and graduated from Burlington High School, Burlington, Kansas. She completed two years at Pittsburg College receiving a teachers certificate, then teaching in a one room school for four years in the Burlington, Kansas area.
She and Darrel H. Stith were united in marriage on September 13, 1942 in Burlington, Kansas. They moved to Atchison, Kansas in 1945. Mr. Stith preceded her in death on November 29, 1989.
Pauline was employed as a secretary with Atchison Public Schools USD 409 for 13 years beginning in 1970. She was active in the integration of the Atchison Elementary Schools in 1954. During World War II she worked at the Boeing factory in Wichita, Kansas.
She was a member of the Atchison United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women (Miriam Circle), PTA, Girl Scouts, Kansas Extension Unit, Social Order of Beauceant, Shepherd Center and Farm Bureau.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl (Adrian) Boldridge, Atchison, KS, three sons, Michael (Sandra) Stith, Coleman, TX, Edwin Stith, Atchison, KS, Clark Stith, Rock Springs, WY, seven grandchildren, Angela (Sean) Tucker, Sophia Dew (John Hickerson), Lauren (Dr. Charles) Cecil, Neil Stith, Sarah Stith, Kirsi Stith and Steve Stith, five great grandchildren, Payton, Genevieve, Taelor, Channing and Holland.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edwin Rife, mother, Clyda Rife Kurtz and stepfather, Herman Kurtz and a brother, Harold Rife.
