Paul Arthur Dunbar

Paul A. Dunbar, 89, Topeka, Kansas died Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Atchison Medicalodge.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity Episcopal Church with Fr. John Hullinger officiating. Burial will follow in the Trinity Episcopal Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family will follow services in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to Helping Hand Humane Society of Topeka, Atchison Medicalodge or Trinity Episcopal Church and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom the final arrangements have been entrusted.

Paul was born May 3, 1927 in Gresham, Nebraska the son of Wilbur A. and Geneva Prather Dunbar. He attended schools in Gresham, Nebraska and Florida. He then moved with his family to Lincoln, Nebraska where he attended and graduated from Northeast High School in Lincoln. Following graduation he attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

Paul served in the United States Army from July 28, 1945 until his honorable discharge on January 6, 1947. He received the Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal after having served in Germany.

He and Wilma Haeffele were united in marriage on April 1, 1950 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Mrs. Dunbar preceded him in death on October 4, 2011.

Paul and his family lived in Atchison, Kansas from 1963 until 1972, then moving to Des Moines, Iowa and later to Topeka, Kansas. Paul worked as a sales representative for the Union Pacific Railroad for over thirty five years, retiring in the mid 1980's.

He enjoyed playing golf and reading, and was an avid Cornhusker fan, attending every home game.

Survivors include a son Bill (Sandie) Dunbar, Atchison, KS, a daughter, Joyce (Bill) Warshaw, Dodge City, KS, a sister, Shirley Brockman, Lincoln, NE, seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and his beloved best friend, his dog, Brownie.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Walter A. Dunbar.
