Paul D. Chmidling, 77, Atchison, Kansas died Friday, July 5, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, Missouri.
Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday July 10, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph's Church, Atchison, Kansas with Rev. Gabriel Landis, OSB as celebrant. The body will be cremated following the services with burial of cremains at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Nortonville, Kansas. A parish wake service will be Tuesday, July 9th at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:30 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Joseph's Church, St. Benedict's Abbey or Mt. Saint Scholastica and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Paul was born December 30, 1935, in Atchison, Kansas, the son of C.J. and Bernadette Hegarty Chmidling. He attended St. Joseph's Elementary School, Nortonville, Kansas later graduating from Nortonville High School. Following graduation he attended the Kansas City Conservatory of Music.
He and the former Evelyn L. Schrick, were united in marriage on April 3, 1956, in the Corpus Cristi Church at Mooney Creek.
Paul was employed for 40 years with New York Life as an insurance agent.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Knights of Columbus Council #723 and for ten years was a member of the Atchison Rivermen Choral Group. He enjoyed working in his yard, and taking his children fishing. Music was one of his great passions as he sang for countless weddings and funerals for friends and family. He also won music contests in high school for his tremendous singing talents.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Chmidling, Atchison, KS; two daughters, Catherine Chmidling, Omaha, NE, Susanne (Michael) Kramer, Denver, CO, three grandchildren, Madison Kramer, Emma Kramer, Hannah Kramer and two sisters, Alice Hansen, Racine, WI, Therese Schrick, Nortonville, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
