Patricia "Pat" Asher passed away October 17, 2015 at the KU Medical Center.
Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Benedict's Church with Abbot Barnabas Senecal as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A parish rosary will be recited on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 6:30 PM in the chapel of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:30 PM. Memorial contributions are suggested to Benedictine College, Mount St. Scholastica Monastery, and St. Benedict's Abbey.
Pat was born October 10, 1927 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the daughter of John and Cecilia Cunningham.
Pat married Jim Asher April 7, 1951. They made their home in St. Joe until moving to Atchison in 1963.
Pat worked at Benedictine College for 37 years as faculty secretary. She was honored with the employee of the year award during her time at Benedictine. Pat and Jim were also awarded the Cross of the Order of St. Benedict in 1997 and the Parent Alumni Award in 2002.
Pat was very proud of her Irish heritage and was chosen the 2004 Grand Marshall of the Atchison St. Patrick's Parade.
Pat was active in the Atchison community. She was a member of the Junior Guild Association, the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary, an Oblate of St. Benedict's Abbey, and the Red Hats. She was a longtime member of St. Benedict's Parish where she served as a Eucharistic and Communion Minister, and Lecturer. Daily Mass was an important part of her life.
Pat is survived by her husband, Jim and her seven children, Jim (Maureen), Martin (Aggie), John (Jeannie), Mary, and Robert, all of Atchison. Paul (Dianne) of Prairie Village and Liz (Dave) Gruenbacher of St. Louis. She has 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
