Pamela Yates, a dedicated medical secretary and accomplished newspaper reporter, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025, in Independence, Missouri. As the daughter of a US Army SFC, she was born on October 16, 1950, in Heidelberg, Germany.
Pamela's academic journey began at St. Benedict's Grade School and continued through Mt. St. Scholastica Academy before culminating at Atchison High School. She further pursued her education at the University of Texas at San Antonio and San Antonio College, where she laid the groundwork for a career that would see her leave a significant mark in both the medical and journalistic fields. She married Guillermo Yates on September 2, 1979, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, in San Antonio, TX.
In addition to her professional pursuits, Pamela served honorably in the United States Army Reserves from 1974 to 1978, embodying a commitment to service that extended beyond her career. Her passions spanned a variety of interests, and she actively engaged in numerous organizations throughout her life in San Antonio, Texas. Notably, she was a founding member of Women Aware, she also contributed to the Dialysis Patient Union, Sigma Delta Chi, and the Society of Professional Journalists.
Pamela took great pride in her work as a writer and spent her final years focusing on a special project dedicated to honoring her mother, whom she regarded as an amazing and talented woman. Her legacy is one of dedication to her profession, service to her community, and an enduring love for her family.
Pamela Yates is preceded in death by her parents, William James Lutz and Vivian Louise (Crawford) Lutz, who are buried at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, and her husband, Guillermo "Gil" Yates, who passed away on May 4, 1990, and is buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. She leaves behind a legacy shaped by her unwavering commitment to her career and the causes she championed throughout her life.
She will be laid to rest at Leavenworth National Cemetery with service care provided by the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.
