Norbert Wagner, 81, Atchison, Kansas, died Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Atchison Senior Village.
Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, September 2, 2013, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Church with Abbot Barnabas Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery. A parish rosary will be recited on Sunday, September 1, 2013 at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:30 P.M.
Norbert was born June 6, 1932, in at the family home in rural Atchison, Kansas the son of Matthias L. and Catherine Schuele Wagner. He attended St. Joseph's Elementary School, then attended and graduated from Maur Hill Prep School in 1950.
Norbert was employed with the Lincoln Grain Elevator for several years and then became employed with Midwest Grain Products Company as a cooker-operator, retiring after 21 years of service.
He and Louella Halling were united in marriage on November 14, 1970, at St. Joseph's Church. Louella preceded him in death on December 9, 2003. On October 6, 2007, he and Marcella Diebolt McPhail were united in marriage at St. Joseph's Church.
Norbert was a member of St. Joseph's Church where he served as a Eucharistic minister and a former member of the Distiller's Union. He enjoyed walking for exercise, traveling, bird watching and his horses. He was also known for his creativity in woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella Wagner, of the couple's home in Atchison, a son, Tony Wagner (Sam), five sisters, Sr. Catherine Wagner, CSJ, St. Louis, MO, Clarita Halling, Overland Park, KS, Beth (Gene) Miller, Atchison, KS, Donna Stec, Atchison, KS, Barbara Miller, Wathena, KS, three brothers, Charlie (Carol) Wagner, Atchison, KS, Bill (Lola) Wagner, Atchison, KS, and Michael (Darlene) Wagner, Atchison, KS.
Norbert was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Martha Wagner, brothers-in-law, John Halling, Roman Stec and Omer Miller.
