Mildred T. Geritz

Mildred T. Geritz, 95, Atchison, Kansas, died Monday, November 4, 2013, at Atchison Medicalodge.

Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, November 7, 2013, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Benedict Church with Abbot Barnabas Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A parish rosary will be recited on Wednesday, November 6th at 6:00 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 7:30 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict Parish and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Mildred was born October 15, 1918, in Atchison County, Kansas, the daughter of Peter T. and Katherine Hager Jacobsen. At an early age she moved with her parents to Brown County, Kansas, and she attended St. Mary's Parochial School in Purcell, Kansas, and then graduated from Huron High School. She later attended the Atchison Business College.

She and Robert E. "Hap" Geritz were united in marriage on October 15, 1946, at St. Mary's Church, Purcell, Kansas. Mr. Geritz preceded her in death on December 17, 1991.

Mildred was employed in the offices of the former Locomotive Finished Materials Company. She then went to work for the Huron Telephone Company for several years before becoming employed at the Atchison High School in the Hot Lunch Program.

Mrs. Geritz was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Parish as well as the Altar Society and participated in Eucharistic Adoration. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and later babysitting for many families in and around Atchison.

Survivors include a son, Larry (Donna) Geritz, Atchison, KS, four grandchildren, Nettie (Damon) Bowen, J. R. Geritz, Tina Alford, Bo Geritz great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Additionally she was preceded in death by a son and his wife, Richard and Pam Geritz, two brothers, Theodore and Henry Jacobsen and two sisters Anna and Regina Jacobsen.
