Michael Joseph Browne, 72, of Atchison, Kansas died peacefully late Wednesday evening January 20, 2021 at Mosaic hospital in Saint Joseph, MO.  He had been ill for several months.

Michael was born in Chicago, IL.  On December 14 th , 1948, the eldest son of Michael Browne and Mary Isabelle O'farrell.

The family lived on numerous army posts until they settled in Shawnee, KS and later Emporia, KS.

He attended Rockhurst High School and later graduated from Roosevelt High School at Emporia.  After graduating, from ESU with a degree in Biology Education in 1967, he taught high school.  Michael studied medicine and also worked as a children's librarian.  He retired in January 2019 as a research librarian at CGSC in Fort Leavenworth, KS.  He was a member of St. Benedict  Parish in Atchison, KS.

Michael's friends described him as adventurous, brilliant, and always kind.  There are many who considered him a good friend.  He was witty and friendly to everyone.

Michael married Paula Amrein on July 14, 2000 at Emporia.  She survives of the home.  He leaves two brothers, John (Susan) Browne, Wichita, KS, Edward (Patty) Browne, Santa Cruz, California, a sister, Mary (Scott) McCusky, Madison, IN, and many nieces and nephews.

The body has been cremated.  Celebration of life and graveside services will be held this summer.  The Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home has been entrusted with final arrangements.  Memorial contributions are suggested to Benedictine Sisters at Mount St. Scholastica, St. Benedict's Abbey, Little Sisters of the Poor or Mexican Sisters and may be sent to Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, 208 North 5 th Street, Atchison, Kansas 66002.
