Mattie F. Mcdonald

Mattie Fleta Thomas McDonald entered this world on June 25, 1934, in Atchison, Kansas. She was born the daughter of Dave Edward Thomas and Clara Odessa Givens, both of which preceded her in death. Mattie departed this world on April 14, 2022, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KS.

Celebration of Life services will be Friday, May 6, 2022, at 1:00 P.M., at Second Christian Church, with Rev. Paul Kelley, officiating. Final care has been entrusted to the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.

She attended public school in Atchison and later took CNA classes at Vo-Tech. She worked various jobs doing laundry and as a CNA.

Mattie had two daughters, Carolyn Green who in 1978, tragically died in a house fire along with her husband David; three daughters, Lachelle (6), Nechelle (4) and Latoya (1½). Carolyn was pregnant with a son who also did not survive the fire. Mattie's daughter Diane Smith passed away in 2019 while living in Atlanta, GA. Mattie had two brothers, Dave Thomas and Harry Craddock, Jr.; Two sisters, Carrie Divers and Lettie Scott, all of which preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her husband Edward McDonald; two children, Lavern McDonald and Jackie McDonald; and one granddaughter Hazel Shield.

She was a member of Second Christian Church, Atchison, Kansas where she served as a Deaconess. She previously served as a Stewardess at Campbell Chapel.

Mattie enjoyed knitting, crocheting, listening to Gospel music and visiting with family.

Remaining to cherish her memories are nieces and nephews: Ken, Anthony (Sweet), Hazel, Joyce (Gary), Marcilene (Renaldo), Ramonia, Tyrone (Yolanda), Berthena, David (Helen), Pat, Rose, Vicky, Georgeann; grandchildren Fredrick (Mary), Jacqueline (Flozelle), Royce, Arrick, Curtis (LouAnne), Tisha (James), Robin and Larica; 17 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grand-children and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
