Mary J. Walker, 97, Atchison, Kansas died Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Atchison Medicalodge.

Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Benedict's Church with Abbot Barnabas Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday at St. Benedict's Church beginning at 10:00 A.M. The Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home has been entrusted with final arrangements. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict's Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Mary was born March 23, 1916, in Rose Valley, Florida, the daughter of Joseph and Katherine Salchert Franzel. She attended Mount Sunshine District #96 school in Norton County Kansas.

She and Paul N. Walker were united in marriage on December 2, 1942, in St. Joseph, Missouri. Mr. Walker preceded her in death.

Mary was employed with the Atchison Hospital serving as a Nurse's Aide from January of 1957 until her retirement in October of 1982.

She was a member of St. Benedict Parish and of the St. Benedict Church Altar Society. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Mary was also very fond of gardening as she was a member of a Atchison Garden Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Marlo A. Norton, Atchison, KS, a son, Joseph N. Walker, Edgar Springs, MO, twelve grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul N. Walker, a daughter, Ronda J. Dugger, a half-brother, Charles Marshall and her foster parents, Joseph F. & Terese Linden.
