Mary A. Robinson

Mary A. Robinson, 100, Atchison, Kansas died at the Atchison Medicalodge Nursing Center.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 22, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, with Rev. Cindy Meyer officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the United Methodist Church or the Shriners Children's Hospital and may be left in care of the funeral home with whom the final arrangements have been entrusted.

Mary was born July 31, 1911, in Waynesville, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur and Ruby Robb Adair. She graduated from Waynesville High School.

She and Jack Robinson were united in marriage on August 2, 1934 in Rockford, Illinois. Mr. Robinson preceded her in death on July 4, 1982.

In the early years of their married life she traveled with her husband throughout much of Kansas as he and his crew did farm building repair work following the depression. She drove the vehicle pulling the tool trailer and cooked for the crew at various times. They lived in a homemade trailer on the back of an International Truck, moving constantly and one year moved 22 times. They lived briefly in Lancaster and in 1945 moved to Lexington, Neb., later back to Lancaster and to Atchison in 1954. Here she was the bookkeeper for Robinson Construction until retirement.

She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution, Martha Washington Chapter of the Eastern Star, Social Order of Beauceants, Atchison Hospital Auxiliary, and the Atchison United Methodist Church, she had attended the Shepherd Center and Project Concern. She loved her family and loved to travel, family geneology, reading and crocheting.

Survivors include three children, Tom Robinson, Atchison, KS, Martha Demmon, Pevely, MO, and Kay Becker, Everest, KS, eight grandchildren, Gary Robinson, Ruth Smith, Amy Hammeke, Brady Demmon, Sarah Elliott, Tony Becker, Eric Becker, Matt Becker, and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Eva Hartry Armstrong, and two brothers, Jerry and Hubert Adair.
