Mary Ann Risse

Mary Ann Risse, 94, Atchison, Kansas died Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Vintage Park Assisted Living in Atchison.

Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Jeremy Heppler, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster, Kansas. Visitation with the family will be Thursday, August 16 ^th from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Croix Hospice or St. Benedict Parish and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Mary Ann was born November 13, 1923 in Everest, Kansas the daughter of James R. and Della Behler Callahan. She attended elementary school in Huron, Kansas and graduated from Huron High School.

She and Clarence J. "Sonny" Risse were united in marriage on May 16, 1953 at Sacred Heart Church in Atchison, Kansas. Mr. Risse preceded her in death on September 6, 1998.

Mary Ann was employed with B & H Clothing Store; Montgomery Wards; Sears; J. C. Penney; Compton Drug Store and Diebolt Clothing Store until her retirement.

She was a member of St. Benedict Parish where she faithfully attended Sacred Heart Church. She was a lady Elk of the Atchison Elk's Club and was honored by the Atchison community as the 2009 "Grand Marshall" of the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Survivors include a son, John C. (Judy) Risse, Atchison, KS; two sisters, Patty Moore, Everest, KS; Alice Alban, Eugene, OR; a grandson, Michael Risse and a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, a brother, Thomas Eugene Callahan and a sister, Margie Hamilton.
