Mary Alice Downing, 94, of Atchison, Kansas died December 19, 2014 at Vintage Park in Atchison, Kansas.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Nancy J Kollhoff officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Monday, December 22, 2014 from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to American Heart Association and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Mary was born March 23, 1920 in Huron, Kansas the daughter of William and Nina Horton. She was the second youngest in a family of twelve siblings.
She attended Atchison High School and St. Joseph Business School. She married Wilbur G. Downing in Huntsville, Missouri in 1940. Mr. Downing preceded her in death in 1986.
Mary worked at Stein Labs in Atchison, Kansas; Mead Company in St. Joseph, Missouri and co-owned and operated Lot-A-Burger Drive-In with her husband in Atchison. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo and working puzzles with her friends at Vintage Park.
She is survived by one son and his wife, Gary and Janet Downing of Overland Park, KS.
