Martha Jane Gage

Martha Jane Howe Gage, 88, of Atchison, Kansas walked into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Vintage Park assisted living facility surrounded by her loving family.
Formerly of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Martha moved to Atchison, Kansas in 2006 to be near her two sons and their families.
Mrs. Gage was born December 18, 1924, in Macon, Missouri, to Thomas and Marie (Griffith) Howe. She grew up in Macon, Missouri and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where she graduated from Albuquerque High School and Western School for Private Secretaries in 1942.
She married Fredrick E. Gage, Sr., on June 16, 1944 and raised two sons in Alamogordo, New Mexico.
Martha was devoted to the community. She was a member of the Alamogordo Art Association and the Otero County Fair Association; member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alamogordo, NM; Trinity Episcopal Church in Atchison, KS.
Martha married Fredrick E. Gage, Sr., and their marriage lasted 24 years. She was preceded in death by her mother and father.
Martha started working at the New Mexico Social Services Agency in January 1960 as a typist and after 26 years retired in October 1986 as the area Food Stamp Certifier.
She is survived by her sister, Barbara Edward of Canutillo, Texas, two sons, Fredrick E. Gage, II and his wife Patty of Atchison, KS and Thomas E. Gage and his wife Debby of Ionia, MO. She had 4 granddaughters, 5great-granddaughters, 2 great-grandsons, and 2 nephews.
The family wishes to thank Dr. John Eplee and the staff at Vintage Park Assisted Living for the loving care they gave Martha. The body has been cremated under the direction of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Two memorial services are being planned, one in Atchison, Kansas and the other in Alamogordo, New Mexico on later dates. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the National Children's Cancer Society in memory of Martha Gage.
