Mae C. Scheid, 104, Atchison, Kansas, died Sunday, January 13, 2013, at Atchison Medicalodge.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 19, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Hendon officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Mt. Vernon Cemetery or First Christian Church and may be left in care of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom the final arrangements have been entrusted.

Mae was born November 24, 1908, in Pardee, Kansas, the daughter of William and Christina Tucking Knapp. She attended Atchison Public Schools.

She and Rolla Bryant were united in marriage on June 2, 1929, at the First Christian Church in Atchison. Mr. Bryant preceded her in death on September 29, 1947. She then married Leo Scheid in Maryville, Kansas, on July 9, 1955. Mr. Scheid preceded her in death on July 5, 1973.

Mae served as a telephone operator first with Southwestern Bell and later AT&T retiring in the 1960's.

She was a member of the First Christian Church. Mae was also a member of the Pioneers Club and the Lewis & Clark Ladies Club. She enjoyed making Miss Beasley Dolls, for all of her friends. She had a passion for sewing, cooking, gardening, freezing strawberries and fishing over at the Sugar Lake when she resided at the Lake. Following her retirement from the phone company she enjoyed going to lunch with the retired ladies from the telephone company.

Mae is survived by a son, Rolla (Shara) Bryant, Sun City, AZ, a daughter, Judy (Lee) Liechti, Atchison, KS, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Albert Knapp, and two sisters, Edna Montgomery and Marie McBride.
