Lucy Helen Diebolt

Lucy Helen Diebolt, 97, Stanley, Kansas died peacefully in her sleep Sunday morning June 19, 2016 at Vintage Park of Stanley of natural causes.

Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Benedict's Church with Abbot Barnabas Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A rosary will be recited on Thursday at 9:30 A.M. at St. Benedict's Church with visitation to follow until 10:30. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict School Endowment and may be left in care of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom the final arrangements have been entrusted.

Lucy was born on August 6, 1918 in Atchison County Kansas the seventh child of George Anton and Lucy Bridget (Colgan) Diebolt. She graduated from Mount St. Scholastica Academy in Atchison and continued to take classes through the Civil Service as well as various colleges throughout her life.

She traveled extensively in Cuba, Japan, China, Ireland and Portugal and lived for a short time in Alaska.

She earned the Meritorious Civilian Service Award, one of the highest civilian awards that can be granted by the Air Training Command. She retired after thirty five years as a federal employee, thirty years of that time at Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento, California. She first came to work there as a statistical clerk and was serving as a program analyst in the comptroller division at the time she retired. She returned to Kansas in February of 2013.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, John, Ralph, George and Joe and two sisters, Catherine Bryant and Dorothy Ebbrecht Merrigan.

Lucy is survived by many nieces and nephews and even more grand nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. George (Mary Lou) Diebolt of Atchison, Kansas.

Even though she remained single all her life, she cared for her immediate and extended family with a generosity that knew no boundaries.
