Loretto M. Smith, 97, Atchison, Kansas, died at Atchison Medicalodge.

A con-celebrated mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, February 18, 2012, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Benedict's Church with Rev. Gerard Senecal, OSB as principal celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family will take place from 6:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday, Feb. 17th in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. A parish rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict's Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Loretto was born August 23, 1914 in Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Joseph J. and Mary Margaret Ruhlman Smith. She attended St. Benedict's Grade School and later graduated from Mount St. Scholastica Academy in 1932.

Loretto began working for her father in the Smith Grocery and then for the Ruhlman Grocery Store both of Atchison until she became employed with Van Dyke's Grocery where she served for eighteen years until her retirement in 1977.

She was a member of St. Benedict's Church, the Altar Society, was active in embroidering for the church bazaar, and St. Ann's Circle of the church. She was also a member of the Mount Roundelay Bridge Club as well as participating in several other bridge clubs, the Mount Alumni Association, volunteered with the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary, enjoyed bowling and traveling both in the United States and abroad and reading.

She is survived by a sister, Marge McGinnis, Atchison, KS, two brothers, Robert Smith, Colorado Springs, CO, Joseph Smith, Atchison, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister Catherine "Kate" Smith and a brother, Paul Smith.
