Lorene E. Vogt

April 9, 1925 — January 8, 2012

Mrs. Lorene E. Vogt, 86, Atchison, Kansas died at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Shawnee Mission, Kansas.

Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Benedict's Church with Rev. Gerard Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A parish wake service will be Friday, January 13th at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:30 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict's Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Lorene was born April 9, 1925 in Troy, Kansas the daughter of Paul and Elizabeth Ruhnke Johnson. She attended elementary schools in Doniphan County, Kansas then moved with her family to the Bean Lake and Weston, Missouri area where she attended and graduated from Weston High School.

She and Vincent A. Vogt were united in marriage on September 3, 1951 at St. Joseph's Church, Atchison, Kansas. Mr. Vogt preceded her in death on October 28, 1986.

Lorene worked at various jobs during her lifetime but her primary devotion was that of a homemaker for her husband and children.

She was a member of St. Benedict's Church, the St. Benedict's Women's Club, church money counter, former chairman of the annual church bazaar, former president of St. Benedict's Parish Council and an avid sales promoter of Atchison Catholic School fundraising calendars. She also was a longtime member of the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary and the Sixty-Year Bridge Club. She formerly served for many years as the treasurer of the Atchison chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include a daughter, Paula E. Vogt, Overland Park, KS, two sons, Philip (Beth) Vogt, Appleton, WI, Christopher (Kathy) Vogt, New Bloomfield, MO, a sister, Bertha Kanning, Overland Park, KS and six grandchildren.

Lorene was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Fitzgerald, Louise Brown and a brother, Herbert Johnson.
