Linda J. Norris, 69, Atchison, Kansas died Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, with Rev. Michael L. Strickland officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Friday, November 30th from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Atchison Humane Society and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Linda was born October 31, 1943 in Dowagaic, Michigan the daughter of Virgil and Dorothy Stanton Mather. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Fred Corkins, Sr., moving to Faucett, Missouri area where she attended elementary school, graduating from East Buchanan High School, Gower, Missouri.
She and Richard E. Norris were united in marriage on February 11, 1977 in Atchison, Kansas.
Linda began her employment with the former Southgate Restaurant in St. Joseph, Missouri where she served as a devout waitress later serving at 36th Street Food & Drink, then the Wooden Nickel and then with Hoof-N-Horn Restaurant where she served faithfully for over twenty years with a loyal group of patrons who delighted in her abilities to remember their favorite drinks and preferences in food. She additionally served at the Riverhouse Restaurant in Atchison, Kansas while the establishment was operated by Hoof-N-Horn of St. Joseph, Missouri.
She was a member of the Baptist faith. Her favorite pastime was going to the casino and "striking it lucky", vacationing and shopping in Branson, Missouri. She loved the time she could spend with her children, grandchildren and all of her family and last but not least her beloved pets.
Survivors include her husband, Richard E. Norris of the couple's home in Atchison, KS, four daughters, Karla (Nicholas) Claycomb, St. Joseph, MO, Kelley (David) Hall, Atchison, KS, Kayla (George) Lemke, Atchison, Ks, Shelley (Jeff) Campbell, Atchison, KS, a son, Kent (Diana) Middleton, Atchison, KS, and their father, Jim Middleton, Agency, Mo, a step-daughter, Brenda Norris, Atchison, KS, a step-son, Rick (Debin) Norris, Kansas City, MO, three sisters, Barbara Taylor, Gower, MO, Katie Musser, Gower, MO, Shannon Pike, Gower, MO, three step-sisters, Janet "Tootie" Bryant, Dearborn, MO, Mary Lee Green, Dearborn, MO, Jane Nash, Dearborn, MO, a brother, Fred Corkins, Jr., Agency, MO, thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and especially her family of co-workers of many years at Hoof-N-Horn Restaurant.
She was preceded in death by a step-daughter, DeeDee Farris.
