Lee Liechti

February 27, 1937 — August 19, 2014

Lee R. Liechti, 77, Atchison, Kansas died unexpectedly Tuesday, August 19, 2014 while aboard a cruise ship near the port of Ketchikan, Alaska.

Memorial services will be Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Hendon officiating. Private burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, August 30th from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Mt. Vernon Cemetery Association, American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Lee was born February 27, 1937 in Wathena, Kansas the son of Walter E. and Cecelia Hoffman Liechti.

He married Judith M. Bryant on November 30, 1958.

Lee served in the army in Korea. He worked at IHP of St. Joseph, Missouri for several years as a superintendent. In 1969 he purchased Piper Plumbing & Heating and was in business for 38 years before retiring in 2001.

He was a member of the First Christian Church and the American Legion. Mr. Liechti served on the Rural Water District #1 Board for many years holding several offices. He was also a former member of the Kansas City Driving Society.

Lee loved his horses and gardening and sharing his vegetables and fruit with his neighbors and friends. He was a Kansas State corn shucking champion for many years and also attended the National shucking competition.

Mr. Liechti was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Dale and a special niece, Vicky Myers.

Surviving is his wife, Judith of the home, a sister, Julie Gehrlein of Liberty, MO, brother-in-law Rolla (Shara) Bryant of Sun City, AZ and numerous nieces and nephews.
