Larry Clark

Lawrence Raymond Clark, age 86, of Atchison, KS, died peacefully on May 1, 2024, at the VA Eastern Kansas Healthcare in Topeka, KS.

Larry was born on June 28, 1937, in Atchison, KS, the son of the late Raymond Clark and Maurine (Caldwell) Clark. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School, graduated from Maur Hill Prep in 1954, and furthered his education at St. Benedict's College where he played on the football team.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 27 SEP 1954, until his honorable discharge on 14 SEP 1956. He began his employment at F. P. Gering before taking on a lifelong role as a lineman. He worked for the power company in Atchison, KP&L, later Western Resources and served his entire career there until his retirement from what was then, Westar Energy.  Larry took countless call outs and overtime hours as a loyal employee. Since working one full time job wasn't enough to keep him busy, he also had cattle at home to tend to and raise. He loved his cattle and the weekly livestock auctions; you just never really knew what he might bring home from the auction each week.

He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church, now St. Benedict Parish and the V.F.W. in Atchison. He had a great love for sporting events and attending his children and grandchildren's different activities.  No matter what the weather or reason, they always had to sit in the exact same spot everywhere they went. He loved his family and enjoyed life to the fullest.

He and Margaret "Cookie" (Cooke) Clark were united in marriage on October 5, 1963, at St. Joseph's Church in Nortonville. They shared sixty plus years of marriage together; Cookie survives of the home in Atchison. He is survived by three children, Michael Clark of Mission, KS; Mark (Stacy) Clark of Lenexa, KS; and Linda Boos of Topeka, KS; son-in-law, Trent Scholz, of Lancaster, KS; eight grandchildren, Patrick Boos, Shawn Boos, Leah Scholz, Rebecca "Beba" (Beau) Vowels, Augie Scholz, Mary Clark, Catherine Clark and Emma Clark; one great grandchild, Bridger Boos, and one on the way and a sister, Harriet Celano.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mary Arensberg and a daughter, Lori Scholz.

Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, May 13, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Jeremy Heppler, OSB as celebrant. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A parish rosary will be Sunday May 12th, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 6 p.m. Memorials may be left to the Lori Scholz Scholarship with checks made out to Make Good Choices Scholarship in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the staff of the VA facilities in Leavenworth and Topeka for the great care bestowed upon Larry and all of America's Veterans for their service.
