Kelvin Wayne Ross, 60, Topeka, Kansas died March 18, 2022, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka, Kansas.
Homegoing services will be Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Kelley officiating. Inurnment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, April 30 th from 10:00 until 11:00 at the funeral home.
Kelvin was born June 17, 1961, in Atchison, Kansas the son of Oliver Jackson, Sr. and Loretta Ross Jenkins. He graduated from Atchison High School and attended Emporia State University for two years.
Kelvin was Baptized into Zion Baptist Church, now known as Shiloh Baptist Church. He was a life-long musician. He pursued his love of music by moving to Hollywood, California in 1983. There he worked with, learned from and performed with such notable artists as the late Al Jarreau. His hard work culminated with the release of his CD "Live" with his band The Elements in 2001 and his solo CD "Pick Me" in 2003. He was an avid collector of musical CD's and movie DVD's which resulted in large collections of both. After moving to Topeka, Kansas in 2015, he worked with Great Life, Topeka and most recently American Home Life Insurance as a Customer Service Representative. He also continued to perform with his new band, The Smooth Tones. He was popular at local night clubs and many festivals and events all over the state, making many friends and followers and receiving great reviews along the way.
Survivors include brothers, Stanley (Darlene) Ross, Manhattan, KS; Roger Ross, Sr., Denver, CO; Donald Ross, Los Angeles, CA; Warren Jackson, Portland, OR; Ronald (Toni) Jackson, Raeford, NC; Danny Jenkins, Jr., Kansas City, MO; George (Kylie) Ross, Jr., Atchison, KS; sisters, Lolita Jackson, Atchison, KS; Martha Ross, Atlanta, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Vernon Ross and infant baby Jackson.
