Judy Ann Brown

October 29, 1952 — December 1, 2019

Lancaster

Judy Ann Brown, 67, of Lancaster, Kansas, died December 1, 2019.

Judy was born on October 29, 1952 in Walla Walla, Washington, the daughter of Clifford and Elma (Hazelton) Howard. She graduated from Fort Scott High School. Judy embraced her duties as a mother and wife the first 15 years of her marriage and nothing else was more important to her. Until her last breath she always put her children and husband first.

After fulfilling her motherly duties, Judy entered the workforce doing what she knew best, food. She worked as executive administrator for the kitchen at St. Benedict's Abbey and later worked as administrative assistant in the cafeteria at Benedictine College. She later retired from Valley Hope, where she worked as an administrative assistant. She was always known as a dependable and hardworking individual.

She grew her family beyond her own children by always welcoming every person into her home and never letting them leave hungry. She became known to many as "Mama Judy". Christmas was her favorite; she had every room decorated and dinner was just as fancy as it was delicious. She was known for many famous dishes, but peach pie may have been at the top of her list. She always said her greatest accomplishments were her children, and her grandchildren were an added bonus that were her entire world. Her children and husband will remember her as the strongest, most tender hearted woman.

She married the love of her life, John M. Brown, on January 27, 1969, in Kansas City, Kansas. John survives of the home. They had three boys, Jeff (Amy) Brown of Atchison, KS, Donnie (Angela) Brown of Lancaster, KS, John (Heidi) Brown II of Lancaster, KS; and one daughter, Heather (James Ellis) Brown of Lancaster, KS. She had five grandchildren, Hayden Hinton, Audrey Brown, Gretchyn Bowers, Olifer Brown and Gwynneth Ellis.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Per Judy's wishes, no services will be held. A celebration of life will be held in her honor in Summer of 2020. Judy was cremated under the care and direction of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are recommended to St. Jude Children's Hospital and may be left in care of the funeral home.
