John Malone Van Dyke, Jr. died December 24, 2025, at Providence Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas following an illness. He was surrounded by his family.
John was an organ donor in the hope of being a Christmas miracle for another person in need.
John was born on September 27, 1960, to John and Mary (Cochran) Van Dyke. He was the oldest of six children and his siblings were proud to have him as their brother.
John graduated from Atchison High School and was a lifelong resident of Atchison, Kansas. He was a valued member of Van Dyke Lawn Care for over thirty years.
John was a fan of Maur Hill basketball and attended every game—more than 500—that his brother Tim coached over a 25-year span. He was an avid Royals and Chiefs fan and enjoyed traveling to professional sporting events with his family. He loved music and going to concerts.
John was preceded in death by his mother Mary Van Dyke. He is survived by his father John Van Dyke Sr.; his siblings David Van Dyke of Kansas City, Missouri; Mary Beth McClintock of Kansas City, Missouri; Tim Van Dyke of Atchison; Sara Van Dyke of New York City, New York; and Andrea Verbanic (Mike) of Eudora, Kansas. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Audrey McClintock, Curtis McClintock, Joyce McClintock, Glen McClintock, Ryan Verbanic, Joseph Verbanic, and Thomas Verbanic.
Visitation with the family will begin at 12:00 noon on Saturday December 27, 2025, at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with a funeral service at 1:00 PM, with Fr. Jeremy Heppler, OSB as officiant. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in John’s memory to The Guidance Center in Atchison, Kansas. Service care provided by the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.
