John "Jack" J Coupe

John J. (Jack) Coupe passed away peacefully with his dignity in the presence of family Wednesday, November 27, 2013, in Ft. Myers, Florida.

Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, May 24, 2014at 10:00 A.M. at St. Benedict's Church with Abbot Barnabas Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Burial of the ashes will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery, Effingham, Kansas. The Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, Atchison, Kansas has been entrusted with the final arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Place of Hope, 105 N. James Campbell Blvd., Columbia, TN 38401.

He was born to James and Loretto Coupe on September 7, 1926 in Rulo, Nebraska. He was raised in Atchison, Kansas graduated from Maur Hill High School, attended Drake University and graduated from St. Benedict's College. He excelled in sports, particularly golf and football.

Upon graduation, he married the late Alyce (Mohler) Coupe, moving to the Kansas City area and establishing a very successful career in sales. He retired from Stone Container Corp. in 1988.

Jack enjoyed entertaining customers, especially at Kansas City Chiefs football games. He was a master of the barbecue grill. His passion was golf, playing the world over with close friends, family and acquaintances. He was a devout and life-long member of the Roman Catholic Church.

Jack is preceded in death by his mother, father, a brother, James and a sister, Patricia.

He is survived by a sister, Rita Coupe, Atchison, KS. He is greatly honored and respected by his children. He leaves behind four sons, Michael (Beverly), Dan, Tom and Patrick. He also leaves behind one daughter, Kelly Ann Hayes (Dean). In addition, grandchildren, Alyssa (Dustyn) LeBarre and Lindsay Hayes, Brett and Ryan Coupe, John Coupe, Emmalee Kendell, Chelsea, Cassie, and Carrie Coupe. He has seven great grandchildren and beloved nieces and nephews.
