John M. Burton, Jr.

John Morgan Burton, Jr., aka Big John, died unexpectedly on February 24, 2024.

A visitation with the family to remember and celebrate Big John's life will be on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with a short prayer service at 7:00 p.m. by Rev. Jim Cormode, to conclude the evening. Memorials may be left to the funeral home. Cremation care entrusted to the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.

John was born on September 11, 1949, in Peoria, IL, the son of John M. Burton and LuEtta Mae (Spencer) Burton. He spent his entire working career as an over the road truck driver. He loved taking his kids with him while he travelled for work; they have visited 48 of the 50 states over the years together. He loved his family and spending as much time as possible with them. He enjoyed riding his Harley, vintage cars and travelling to the Philippines.

He is survived by his daughters, Ashley Burton and Jessica Burton; a sister, Brenda Petersen; a brother-in-law, Dirk Weatherford; and a niece who helped care for John, Desiree Lopez, and numerous other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jacqueline "Jackie" Weatherford, and an uncle, Russell "Bud" Spencer.
