JoAnn Cecile May, 81, Atchison, Kansas, died Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at the Medicalodge of Atchison.
Private family interment of cremated remains will be held at a later date. There will be no services held. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made out to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation and may be sent in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom the final arrangements have been entrusted.
JoAnn was born on September 14, 1935 in Escanaba, Michigan, the daughter of Cecil and Regina (Redstrom) LaCombe. She attended Escanaba Public Schools in Michigan. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois.
JoAnn married John S. May on June 28, 1959 in Escanaba, Michigan. Mr. May preceded her in death on May 28, 1983.
She worked as a Registered Nurse at the VA Hospital in Leavenworth, Kansas until she decided to be a homemaker as she raised her children. She later returned working at the hospital until her retirement.
Survivors include one daughter, Karin (Steve) Walz, Atchison, KS and one granddaughter, Elizabeth Walz, Atchison, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters, Kamille May, Kristina Paquette, two brothers and one sister.
