Joan Elaine Staley

Joan E. Staley, 88, Atchison, Kansas died Monday, May 20, 2019 at the North Kansas City Hospital Hospice Center, Kansas City, Missouri.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremy Heppler, OSB officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to Atchison Humane Society and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.

Joan was born December 31, 1930 in Atchison, Kansas the daughter of Wilford E. and Goldie Roberson Miller. She attended Martin East Elementary School graduating from Atchison High School in 1946.

She and Robert V. Staley were united in marriage on January 17, 1953 in Horton, Kansas. Mr. Staley preceded her in death on March 27, 2015.

Joan was a woman of many talents. Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She spent many an hour playing Gin Rummy and Manipulation with her Granddaughters. She loved to cook. In 1974 she was a finalist in the Pillsbury Bake-off. She did beautiful stained glass pieces and many paintings of still life and portrait art. She played the organ by ear and was a member of the Organ Club. She was an excellent dancer also. She was an avid bridge player and took pride in her flowers.

She also loved to travel. Pensacola Beach Florida held a special place in her heart as did La Carihuela Torremolinos, Spain. She and Bob traveled there for 40 plus years and made many friends there.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Glenn, sister and brother-in-law Eileene and Joseph Price, niece Gloria Price Kerns.

Survivors include a daughter, Melanie A. (Tim) Brungardt, Atchison, KS; a son, Robert V. Staley II, Atchison, KS; three grandchildren, Brandi (Sean Skaggs) Brungardt, Cassandra (Ryan) Callahan and Paul Staley; two great grandchildren, Chloe and Raylan Callahan.
