Joan A. Navinskey, 78, Cummings, Kansas, died Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at F.W. Huston Medical Center, Winchester, Kansas after a short, courageous battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, February 18, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Mooney Creek with Father Jojaiah Mandagiri as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Corpus Christi Church Cemetery. A parish rosary will be recited on Sunday, February 17th at 4:00 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 6:00 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to Corpus Christi Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Joan was born May 28, 1934 in rural Jefferson County, Kansas, the daughter of Otto and Agatha Danzebrink Schrick. She attended school at Oak Grove 57 Elementary at Mooney Creek and then Mount Saint Scholastica Academy in Atchison.

She and Ed Navinskey were united in marriage on July 9, 1951, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Mooney Creek and celebrated their 61st anniversary last year.

Joan was a stay at home mom, raising her children, maintaining their home and helping her husband with their dairy and farm. She later became a school bus driver for USD #377 where she transported many children to and from school for over thirty-one years until her retirement in 1996.

She was a lifelong member of Corpus Christi Church, Mooney Creek, and its Altar Society. A longtime bowling enthusiast, she participated and belonged to several bowling leagues for many years. Joan was an avid reader, enjoyed shopping with her sisters, having lunch with friends, tending her garden and flowers, her farm pets and giving her money to the casino. What she looked forward to the most was attending sporting and school events and watching her grandchildren participate. She thoroughly enjoyed watching KU basketball.

Survivors include her husband, Ed Navinskey, Cummings, KS, three sons, Mike Navinskey, Tampa, FL, Mark Navinskey, Effingham, KS, Scott (Lori) Navinskey, Atchison, KS, five daughters, Terry (Ross) Montgomery, Effingham, KS, Shelly Ludwig, Lawrence, KS, Cindy Dooley, Atchison, KS, Connie Watkins, Arlington, TX, Brenda (Randy) Dvorak, Weston, MO, two sisters, Evelyn (Paul) Chmidling, Atchison, KS, Ruth (Harry) Woltkamp, Liberty, MO, twenty one grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, numerous in-laws and cousins.
