Jerome P. Pickman, 85, Atchison, Kansas died Friday, July 10, 2015 at Atchison Senior Village Nursing Center surrounded by his loving family.
Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, July 13, 2015 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph's Church with Rev. Gabriel Landis, OSB as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A parish and Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited on Sunday, July 12 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 5:00 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict Parish, St. Benedict's Abbey, Mount St. Scholoastica or Northeast Kansas Hospice and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Jerome was born on October 11, 1929 in rural Atchison, Kansas the son of Peter and Catherine Weinmann Pickman. He attended Weinmann Rural Elementary, St. Patrick's School and then Maur Hill Prep School.
He and Freda M. Halling were united in marriage on November 11, 1957 at St. Benedict's Church in Bendena, Kansas.
Jerome served as a truck driver for Midwest Grain Products, retiring after thirty-four years. He previously drove a truck for numerous farmers, Brox for Rocks and Pillsbury Milling Company.
He was a member of St. Benedict Parish, participating at St. Joseph's Church. He was a member of Sacred Heart Council #723 of the Knights of Columbus and the William T. Jochems General Assembly #1716, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Freda Pickman, of the couple's home in Atchison, KS, one son Brian (Sherri) Pickman, Marceline, MO, two daughters, Theresa (Dirk) Bowser, Lecompton, KS, Ann (Jon) Niccum, Lawrence, KS, one brother Marcellus "Bud" Pickman, Atchison, KS, six sisters, Rosie Gambon, Springfield, MO, Helen Zishka, Lenexa, KS, JoAnn Scherer, Basehor, KS, Catherine Oliver, Basehor, KS, Betty DeHaven, Leavenworth, KS, Virginia Kuckelman, Atchison, KS, seven grandchildren, one step grandson and four step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mary Darrenkamp and four brothers, Al Pickman, Carl Pickman, Bob Pickman and Bill Pickman.
