Jean M. Oberlin

Jean M Oberlin (Abbuehl) died on September 11, 2016, at the age of 95.

She started life as Jean Abbuehl in Holton, and was raised in Atchison along with her brothers Don and Bob.

Attending school in Atchison, she and her brothers became close friends with children from the Oberlin Family. It later became quite a big deal for both families when Bill and Jean were married.

Jean and Bill went to KU in Lawrence before the war. Afterward they relocated to Crystal City, Missouri, where William became an Engineer with PPG Industries. Jean had four sons and made many lifelong friends. In the late 1950s her husband Bill was promoted and the family relocated to Pittsburgh. When her children were old enough for her to have some time, she returned to school and earned a Masters degree in Religious Education from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. She later became the Seminary's Registrar and Financial Aid officer until she retired.

Always active in the Presbyterian Church, she enjoyed donating her time to various charitable activities including, Meals on Wheels, March of Dimes, PEO, scholarship foundations, and became was well known for sewing custom made walker bags for hundreds of seniors in several retirement homes.

She is survived by her four sons and their wives: William and Barbara, John and Georgeann, Thomas, and James and Joan. She has six grandchildren: Eric, Emily, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Julia, and Katherine, and 4 great-grandchildren Wyatt, Van, Colby, and Kennedy.

Gravesite service will be Saturday, July 22, 2017, at 10:30 A.M. at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, in Atchison, Kansas.
