James P. "Phillip" Edwards, 64, Atchison, Kansas died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the Atchison Hospital.
Graveside services and burial will be Monday, March 10, 2014 at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Monday from 11:00 until 1:00 P.M. at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.
Phillip was born March 5, 1950 in Atchison, Kansas the son of Noble L. and Geraldine Green Edwards. He attended Martin East and Martin West Elementary Schools, graduating from Atchison High School.
He became employed with Rockwell International Corporation in Atchison then Atchison Casting Corporation and Bradken serving as a crane operator for over forty years.
Phillip and his wife, Mabel B. Edwards were united in marriage on July 2, 1977 in Atchison, Kansas. Mrs. Edwards preceded him in death on November 15, 2007.
Phillip served with the United States Marines from March 12, 1969 until his honorable discharge on January 8, 1970 after serving in San Diego, California.
He was a former member of Zion Baptist Church of Atchison. He enjoyed music, singing and dancing. He also enjoyed working with audio visual equipment.
Survivors include a daughter, Versella Edwards, Kansas City, MO, two sisters, Anna Grant, Kansas City, MO, Henrietta Billups, Kansas City, KS, four grandchildren and two great granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Noble and Geraldine Edwards, two sisters, Sandy Edwards, Lilly Edwards, two brothers, Wilbur L. Edwards and Robert Edwards.
