James "Jim" Madison, Sr.

James Richard Madison Sr., age 73, of Atchison, Kansas, passed away Monday, August 15, 2022, at his home. Jim has been cremated under the care and direction of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. No services are planned at this time.

Jim was born on October 18, 1948, in Vancouver, Washington, the son of the late Ella (Tordrup) Madison and Richard Madison. His father was a travelling salesman and Jim attended schools in numerous states.

He began a long career in power generation with Colorado Power and Light before moving to Cameron, Missouri, where he raised his family and worked at Hawthorne Station for KCPL. He moved to Atchison, Kansas, in the 1990s when the Iatan Power Plant was built and worked as a mechanic and Maintenance Foreman until his retirement.

Jim was very active in the Boy Scouts of America with Troop 87 in Cameron, MO, and was a Scout Master; he loved attending Camp Geiger, helping with maintenance on the camp and participating in Mic-O-Say Ceremonies. He enjoyed working on all kinds of projects and enjoyed flying remote control airplanes.

Survivors include his son, James Richard Madison, Jr., Cedar Falls, IA; two daughters, Yvette (Michael) Roy, Colorado Springs, CO, Lynette Madison, Cameron, MO; a brother, Lewis Madison; a sister, Lynette Madison; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials are sent to the Pony Express Council of Boy Scouts of America, 1704 Buckingham St, St. Joseph, MO, 64506.
