James E. "Jim" Schneider

James E. "Jim" Schneider, 71, Atchison, Kansas died Monday, September 9, 2013, at the Atchison Hospital.

A Con-Celebrated Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church with Fr. Gabriel Landis, OSB as principal celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Louis Church Cemetery, Good Intent. A Parish and Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited on Friday, September 13th at 6:00 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:00 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to council #723 of Knights of Columbus or St. Benedict Parish and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Jim was born February 6, 1942, in Nortonville, Kansas, the son of Edgar Eugene and Joann Hager Schneider. He attended St. Joseph's Elementary School in Nortonville, then Sacred Heart Grade School, Atchison, graduating from Maur Hill Prep School in 1960. While in the military he received a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico. Also his Masters degree in Systems Management from UCLA. He also taught Naval Science and weapons systems for the Naval ROTC at the University of Kansas.

He and Judith A. Haupt were united in marriage on September 16, 1961, at St. Louis Church in Good Intent.

Jim enlisted in the United States Navy in August 1960, and retired as a Lieutenant Commander on August 31, 1980. Upon his returning to Atchison he immediately became employed with Midwest Grain Products Company, Atchison, Kansas, as an electrician. He later served as the plant manager of the plant in Pekin, Illinois. Then as senior corporate engineer serving for twenty-four years, retiring in 2004.

Jim was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Knights of Columbus council #723 and William T. Jochems General Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He formerly served as Grand Knight of Council #2093, Nortonville, Kansas, until moving to Atchison.

Survivors include his wife Judy of the home, three sons, Mike (Amy) Schneider, Lawrence, KS, Tim Schneider, Moldova, Steven (Vanessa) Schneider, Lawrence, KS, two daughters, Christine (Todd) Deterding, Lindsborg, KS, Laura Schneider, Lawrence, KS, four brothers, Joseph C. Schneider, Atchison, KS, Ed Schneider, Atchison, KS, David Schneider, Atchison, KS, Phillip Schneider, St. Louis, MO, three sisters, Aimee Ferrel, Loveland, CO, Sr. Mary Schneider, OSF, Ontario, Canada, Susie Sumpter, Downs, KS, and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
