Jackie Tyrone Jennings

Jackie Tyrone Jennings, 64, Atchison, Kansas passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

Jackie was born December 8, 1958, in Atchison, Kansas the son of Wallace Walter "Jack" Jennings and Ernestine Jones Jennings. He attended Martin East and Martin West Elementary Schools and was in the Atchison High School Class of 1977.

Jackie was a member of Campbell Chapel AME Church in Atchison, Kansas. Jackie was a gifted drummer who would often at times have a pair of drum sticks in his pocket and would sit in a band and play along. He would volunteer playing the drums throughout the city for various churches and events. He was fortunate to be a member of several bands in his lifetime and was even able to travel to South Dakota to play the drums while in high school. Jackie also enjoyed riding his bike throughout the streets of Atchison. He enjoyed visiting the various downtown merchants and his friends throughout the city.

Jackie had a good heart and was loved by many. He was accepted for who he was and how he was. He just wanted to be himself and do what he wanted to do. Jackie was life of the party and always had a positive spirit.

Survivors include his sister, Rona Jennings Downing, Kansas City, MO; brother-in-law Leonard O. Downing Jr., Topeka, KS; nephew, Wesley Downing, Topeka, KS; nephew, Ryan and Shalisha Downing Olathe, KS; nephew, Kyle Downing and Nate Longoria, Kansas City, Mo; great niece and nephew Emory and Maxwell, Olathe, KS; uncle, George Jennings, Tampa, Fl; and many cousins and numerous close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Homegoing Service will be Monday, February 6, 2023, at 12:00 Noon at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Kelley officiating. Visitation with the family will be for one hour preceding the service. Funeral care has been entrusted to the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home.
