Helen C. Vandiver, 75, Atchison, Kansas died Monday,at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, Missouri.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at Friday, March 16, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Benedict's Church with Rev. Gerard Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A parish rosary will be recited on Thursday, March 15th at 6:30 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation with the family to follow until 8:30 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to Wounded Warriors and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Helen was born November 1, 1936 in Atchison, Kansas, the daughter of Leo and Marie Kane McCoy. She attended District #74, later graduating from Mount St. Scholastica Academy.
She and Jerry Vandiver were united in marriage on June 4, 1957, at St. Benedict's Church. Mr. Vandiver preceded her in death May 18, 1993.
Helen worked as a switchboard operator at the Atchison Youth Center for 28 years. Following her retirement she served at the Dooley Center as a switchboard operator.
She was a member of St. Benedict's Church and the VFW Auxiliary of Post #1175 of Atchison. Helen loved to fish, spend time with her family, attend her grandchildren's sporting events and going to Branson.
Survivors include two daughters, Alane Hanshaw, Atchison, KS, Joanie Frakes, Atchison, KS, a son, Mark Vandiver, Atchison, KS, a sister, Mary Jean Zeit, Lancaster, KS, a sister-in-law, Virginia McCoy, Atchison, KS, and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Vandiver, and a brother, Eugene McCoy.
