Helen L. Coder, 91, Atchison, Kansas died Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Vintage Park in Atchison.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at First Christian Church with Rev. Lee Hendon officiating. Burial of cremains will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Effingham, Kansas. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, Feb. 20th from 1:00 P.M. until time of services at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to First Christian Church Food Pantry or St. Jude Hospice and may be left in care of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom the final arrangements have been entrusted.
Helen was born October 13, 1921 in Goff, Kansas the daughter of Clifford and Myrtle Simeno Shotwell. She moved as a small child with her family to Atchison, Kansas and attended Atchison Public Schools, graduating from Atchison High School.
She and Billy Wayne Coder were united in marriage on August 30, 1941 at First Christian Church. Mr. Coder preceded her in death on November 11, 2001.
Helen was a homemaker caring for her husband and children. She enjoyed the time she and Bill spent dancing together at numerous events. She was a member of First Christian Church, an avid cook and baker, known during the Christmas holiday for her many baked cookies and homemade candy that she loved to share with family and friends. Helen also spent many hours sewing, quilting, bowling and participating at the casino.
Survivors include a daughter, Kay (Jesse) Greenly, Atchison, KS, a son, Michael (Tami) Coder, Williams, CA, a sister, Betty Rowland, Weston, MO, six grandchildren, Christopher (Heather) Pruessner, Brian (Michelle) Pruessner, Holly (Kirk) Dalton, Dustin Coder, Jessi Coder, Rylee Coder, two step-grandchildren, Brandi (Anthony) Ross, Jesse (Stacey) Greenly, III, five great-grandchildren, Brittany Pollack, Cheyenne Miller, Trea Pruessner, Nigel Dalton , Casey Pruessner, five step-great grandchildren, Kadejah Ross, Kendall Ross, Kathryn Ross, Jesse Greenly, IV, Jamin Greenly, two sisters-in-law, Lucille Coder, Effingham, KS, Leita Coder, Holton, KS and numerous nieces and nephews.
