Gertrude C. Haines, 96, Atchison, Kansas died at Atchison Senior Village Nursing Center.
Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, January 13, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Benedict's Church with Rev. Gerard Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A parish and Daughter's of Isabella rosary will be recited on Thursday, January 12th, at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:30 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict's Church or Atchison Catholic School and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Gertrude was born March 26, 1915 at Effingham, Kansas the daughter of Joseph and Margaret Scott Wyatt. She attended St. Ann's Grade School and graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1932.
Gertrude married John Fielder Haines on November 12, 1935. He preceded her in death on November 29, 1972.
Gertrude was a member of St. Benedict's Church, the Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella, Atchison Hospital Auxiliary and the Senior Citizens Bowling League. She was a member of several card clubs. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, embroidery and working crossword puzzles. Her greatest love was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon (Bob) Hess, Topeka, KS, one son Terry (Mary) Haines, McKinney, TX, one sister Jeanette Burton, Oak Harbor, WA, four grandchildren Susan Roberts, Eudora, KS, Dan (Susan F.) Hess, Topeka, KS, Kylie Haines and Becky Knight, McKinney, TX and two great grandchildren, Madison and Connor Hess, Topeka, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Margaret Ann Haines in 2007, four sisters and three brothers.
