George W. Smith, 71 years of age, of Atchison, Kansas died Thursday, June 19, 2014 at his residence.

The body has been cremated. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, June 22, 2014 from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. at Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be given to the family for a memorial fund to be designated at a later date. Private interment of the cremains will be at a later date in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, Kansas.

George was born June 9, 1943 in St. Joseph, Missouri the son of Arthur C. and Ida Mae Boydston Smith. He attended Rushville Elementary School and DeKalb High School.

He and Ethel A. Hundley were united in marriage on January 9, 1960 at Short Creek Baptist Church, Rushville, Missouri. Together they shared fifty four years of marriage with their three children, Barbara, Doug and Randy.

George was a truck driver until he retired. He was a member of Bellevue Golf and Country Club and enjoyed playing golf.

George leaves behind his wife, Ethel of the couple's home in Atchison, a daughter, Barbara (Marcus) Steidel, St. Joseph, MO, two sons, Douglas (Patty) Smith, Basehor, KS, Randy (Marcia) Smith, Cameron, MO, a brother, John "Bud" (Nancy) Smith, Atchison, KS, a sister, Ona Mae (Kenny) Hartman, St. Joseph, MO, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Ida Mae Smith and a sister, Lou Ella Williams.
